Life-changing Leash Manners
Is it overly dramatic to say that your dog’s leash manners affect your life so much? Think about it: dogs that are not well controlled are stressful for their owners, who don’t enjoy walking them, who can’t take them to certain places, and who end up arranging their lives around the issue. I’ve had clients who only walk their dogs after 10pm to avoid encountering other dogs, others who haven’t taken a vacation in years because they can’t take their dog or leave him with a dog walker, and others whose dogs have caused them legal tangles because the dogs knocked people over or nipped children.
The goal of most owners is to be able to walk their dogs wherever they want without any reactivity, for the dog to accompany them calmly and happily, stress-free and confident. We can accomplish this with just about any dog by combining effective equipment (some form of a training collar that communicates best with the dog) and appropriate techniques, tailored to the individual dog; once owners understand what to do and how to do it, as long as they put in the reps they will get the results!
