Pros and cons of dog daycare
Dog daycare can be a lifesaver for a lot of people: they can drop their dog off and pick him up eight hours later and he will be happily tired for the rest of the evening. It’s difficult for many people to give their dogs enough appropriate outlets, both physically and mentally, and a good daycare can do this for them.
So what are the general benefits to dog daycare?
1. Dogs get the exercise they need.
2. They socialize with other dogs.
3. They spend time away from their owners.
4. They are carefully supervised in their play.
5. Any negative consequences of leaving them home alone are prevented.
Sounds great, right? But there can be some drawbacks:
1. Dogs can get hurt, depending on the play style of themselves and others.
2. They can get sick (just like kids going to school and coming home with a cold, etc.)
3. They can become dependent on that high level of exertion to the point that, on days they don’t go to daycare, they’re too energetic to be calm and quiet at home.
For the many dogs who are sociable and enjoy the company of others, the pros outweigh the cons of dog daycare. If this describes your pup, then try out a facility and see what you think. One thing’s for sure: if your dog likes it, he will tell you after one visit: we hear dogs whining with excitement in their cars as soon as they turn the corner!
